Solar Powered Future: Leading the way in WA

Willie Creek Pearls

Embargoed until 8 May 2025

Introducing Mimi Pearl, a groundbreaking, state-of-the-art solar-electric tour vessel, and the first of its kind in Western Australia. Launching next month at Willie Creek, this eco-friendly vessel represents a significant leap in sustainable tourism.

With a 46-seat capacity, the Mimi Pearl increases our tour capacity while eliminating the need for fossil fuels, reducing our carbon footprint. Its advanced battery system lasts six times longer than traditional outboard motors, extending lifespan from two to 12 years and reducing material waste.

The vessel provides an enhanced sensory experience with no noise or smell, improving passenger comfort and safety while eliminating the need for fuel handling. Powered by a 6.5 kW bifacial solar panel array, it sets a new standard for eco-tourism.

Named after the matriarch of Willie Creek Pearls, Valda Banfield - affectionately known as 'Mimi' by her family (meaning Grandmother in the traditional Aboriginal language) - the vessel's creative design draws inspiration from a photograph of Valda in her youth, when she was crowned Miss Floreat.

Accessibility is prioritised with a mobility-aide-friendly ramp and future upgrades planned. Wi-Fi powered by Starlink ensures connectivity. Mimi Pearl allows visitors to experience the natural beauty of Willie Creek, supporting sustainable tourism while preserving delicate habitats for future generations.
