Lining the road to one of Broome’s most iconic experiences - Willie Creek Pearl Farm - is a striking sculptural trail created by Artist in Residence, Donna Fortescue. Each installation serves as a marker, guiding visitors through the ever-changing landscape and deeper into the story of Country, culminating in the unique and immersive experience that awaits at the pearl farm.
A member of the founding Banfield family - her brother, Robert Banfield, is Director of Willie Creek Pearls - Donna brings a personal and creative
connection to the land. Her sculptures are inspired not only by the textures, colours, and contrasts of the Kimberley region - like the twisted white trunks of ghost gums, the shimmer of pearl shells, and the red pindan earth - but also by her own family’s stories and deep ties to the area.
Her work guides visitors along the final leg of the journey, offering not just direction, but a taste of the artistry, storytelling, and legacy that awaits at Willie Creek Pearl Farm - inviting them to slow down, take notice, and connect with the spirit of the land as they arrive.
